Abel Mendoza has finally linked up with a major promotion.

BoxingScene has confirmed that the unbeaten junior welterweight has signed with TGB Promotions and Premier Boxing Champions. Details of their pact were not revealed as this story goes to publication, though the 29-year-old Texas native Mendoza is thrilled with the significant step forward in his nine-year career.

“I’m proud to announce that I signed a multi-fight deal with the best promotional company in the world, TGB with PBC,” Mendoza confirmed on Thursday. “I wanna thank my management team, Luis DeCubas Jnr, Anthony McDonald, Al Haymon and my [new] promoter Tom Brown. Thank y’all for believing in me.”

An official connected to the deal confirmed to BoxingScene that plans were in the works for Mendoza, 42-0 (31 KOs), to soon make his PBC debut.

For the moment, Mendoza is due to headline a November 22 show in Odessa, roughly 90 minutes from his birthplace of Fort Stockton, Texas. It will mark his first sanctioned bout in the US since a June 2024 six-round unanimous decision victory in his current El Paso hometown.

Mendoza has since added a pair of wins in Colombia, which bookended his second season with the Phoenix Fury as part of the Team Combat League (TCL).

Although Mendoza boasts a glossy record, the major knock on his career is the lack of substance on his résumé. Just 12 of his 42 pro bouts have taken place in the US, while more than half of his fights have been held in Mexico.

The criticism over the slow pacing of his pro career is not at all lost on Mendoza; hence the decision to align himself with PBC, which holds quite a bit of stock at junior welterweight.

The company’s final pay-per-view offering of 2025 will feature former WBA 140lbs titlist Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz against Lamont Roach Jnr. Three weeks prior, current WBA titleholder Gary Antuanne Russell, 18-1 (17 KOs), will risk his belt against mandatory challenger Andy Hiraoka, 24-0 (19 KOs), in Miami, Florida.

Among the other fighters who frequent the PBC circuit are former titleholders Alberto Puello, 24-1 (10 KOs), and Rances Barthelemy, 30-3-1 (15 KOs), former title challenger Frank Martin, 18-1 (12 KOs), and rising blue-chip prospect Curmel Moton, 8-0 (6 KOs).

“I will finally have the opportunity to face some of the best fighters in the world,” insisted Mendoza. “To everyone that’s been supporting this journey of mine, let’s prove the whole world wrong!”
