Former European heavyweight champion Audley Harrison is hoping to be given a shot at the winner of Dereck Chisora v Tyson Fury on July 23rd as he looks to return from his humiliation at the hands of David Haye. The near 40 year-old has been out of action since the punch-shy three-round world title challenge last November and will be hoping to step back into the boxing limelight at domestic level.
The US-based Briton has five losses in his 27 contests so far, but may have to prove himself against lesser opposition first, before he gets the chance to face either of the ‘Big Brawler’s” as the winner of the Wembley Arena contest next month is touted for a world title challenge against Wladimir Klitschko.
Harrison, who picked up super-heavyweight gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 before embarking on a hit and miss pro career, has been Tweeting on a regular basis about getting back into the British mix and it seems that he fancies his chances against either of the up and coming 14-fight undefeated champions.
When asked by a fellow-Tweeter who he thinks would win the British and Commonwealth battle, Harrison replied; “I don’t care but I want the winner.” Harrison also dismissed a fight with Prizefighter champion Mike Perez by stating; “Let me see, British and Commonwealth titles or Mike Perez and no titles? Glad you're not my manager.”
