it has been stated by multiple people that such a wide window would allow for an athlete to use PED's for a short period of time, and have enough time to get back off and test clean on fight night...the whole idea of "random" testing is so that you can be tested at any time, on any date, for any reason, or no reason at all...it doesn't allow for ANY splip ups...

All I'm saying is that if Pac's counteroffer is good enough for the testing bodies, then it's enough to get this fight signed.

If you think the testing bodies are doing their job wrong, then then that's another matter to be tackled altogether.

head back a few years and you would have heard this argument on a baseball forum with people defending Canseco, McGwire, and Bonds..."never failed a test" "baseless allegations" "hearsay" "wild speculations."

Testing for ANYTHING at one time would have been considered "unprecedented in the history of the sport." So does that mean they should have never started testing for PED's to begin with?

Testing MUST evolve as athletes/trainers/doctors/suppliers become more adept at creating and administering drugs that can circumvent current testing methods...

There is nothing more ridiculous about Floyd wanting this testing, than Manny wanting the weight clause...

I wholeheartedly agree that testing methods should advance up to the point where there can be no more room for doubt.

But why suddenly go beyond the rules and requirements in this particular fight, which is so important and deemed a savior of the Sport, on mere speculation started by Floyd Sr. that eventually led to it being used as one of Junior's bargaining chips in the negotiations. Pac's never been tested positive and has never been accused of drug use before. Though I'm not too familiar with the examples you cited from other sports, I won't be surprised if there had been just cause for the outcry for tests, but Pac's reputation has always been held in high regard as a boxer, not a cheater, that was until Floyd Sr. gave his "expert" opinion about his success...lol.

You have to admit, that if Floyd didn't ask for it, there wouldn't have been this much talk about Steroids and PED's even if you and I or everyone else thinks stricter randomized testing is the solution. The fight would have been made easy.

So why don't the powers that be in Boxing get their heads and their act together to do something to improve the system by amending the requirements so that no boxer can complain about the tests, and not arbitrarily subject a particular fighter to something outside the parameters of current requirements on the whim of his opponent?

I say set the rule on stone first.

Floyd was asking Manny for too much, in an unprecedented demand that Manny genuinely believes would adversely affect him in the fight. Whether its valid or not, it would have a negative mental effect on him. Floyd shouldn't have asked for it to begin with and we'd have this fight to look forward to in March.

I wasn't talking about MY word against the doctor, but the doctor's word against a phalanx of experts working in those drug testing organizations being mentioned. Learn to comprehend. Well it is Floyds idea and looks like he may have gotten the ball rolling on it...its still early.

Like I said- Why not start it with the biggest and most high profile fight?
Time will tell if he will ask for it with his next fight, he would look like an idiot if he doesnt.

Anyway, I don't think these changes in the system, although necessary, can be made overnight.

It's too drastic a concept to be dangled as a mere bargaining chip by Floyd. It is revolutionary for Boxing.

Floyd was trying to make a 14 day deal with Pac right up until the very end. But you need to tell yourselves that it's FMJ's fear. Yeah, OK.

That's the Olympics and they ALL get tested.

Manny's never fought in the Olympics so Floyd's demands are all new to him...lol. It would be new territory for any pro aside from those former Olympiads. In this unprecedented case, only he and Floyd get to be tested in that kind of standard for the first time.

Exactly so do it for every fighter not ONE. Petition for it with the commission, sounds like Arum was more than willing to do what NSAC enacts. Why hasn't Schaefer petitioned for it yet? I thought this was about fair play, and sportmanship.

Why kind of idiotic logic is this? You agree that better testing is needed in boxing, but you won't approve of doing it for one fight until a state commision makes it mandatory for all fights? If it's required by the rules than no fighter should be exempted.

Change the rules to require EVERYONE to be tested to the standards that Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants and it will be fair.

Both Mayweather and Pacquiao would have been subjected to the same testing. Why do people keep acting as if Pacquiao would be the only one who had to take the stricter testing?

I love how BEE keeps saying the urine test is sufficient to track EPOs. What he doesn't want to tell you is that it tracks only one type - a synthetic type. And that it is almost impossible for it to be traced through urine testing because it leaves your body so quickly. He also doesn't tell you that tracking the red blood cell count is better because that just doesn't disappear in a day or two. But then he'd have to tell you that the only way that can be done is through (brace yourself)...blood testing.
