Scott Not Buying Stiverne's 'Excuses' For Wilder Loss

Heavyweight contender Malik Scott is not buying Bermane Stiverne's explanation for the recent twelve round decision loss to Deontay Wilder. Two weeks ago, Wilder (33-0, 32KOs) captured the WBC heavyweight title with a better than expected performance against Stiverne (24-2-1, 21KOs) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Scott was knocked out in one round by Wilder in their WBC final eliminator in 2014. That victory earned Wilder a shot at Stiverne. Scott was ringside at the MGM.

Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, Bayamon, Puerto Rico - In a super featherweight battle of former champions, Juan Manuel Lopez (34-3, 31KOs) stopped Daniel Ponce De Leon (45-6, 35KOs) in the second round. Juanma was dropped in the second, but then came back to drop Ponce De Leon twice, and then forced the stoppage. The was a rematch of their 2008 super bantamweight encounter, which Juanma won by knockout in the first round.

Heavyweight banger Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31KOs) defended his good friend, Malik Scott, who Wilder knocked out in the first round on Saturday night in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Wilder said he landed very hard with a left hand on Scott's temple, and then followed it up and a right that was partially blocked. Scott went down and couldn't regain his senses to make it up before the referee reached the count of ten. The crowd wasn't happy with the rapid ending and there were immediately questions posed on Scott, regarding whether or not he intentionally stayed down on the mat.

Malik Scott took to Twitter and Instagram on Sunday to defend himself against critics claiming he took a dive against Deontay Wilder on Saturday night. The hard-hitting Wilder stopped Scott, a veteran heavyweight from Philadelphia, just 1:36 into their scheduled 10-round fight in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, to keep his perfect knockout streak intact. Scott was supposed to represent a step up for Wilder, a close friend and former sparring partner, but “The Bronze Bomber” from Tuscaloosa, Ala., hit him with a left hook on the temple that left a disoriented Scott unable to continue in the first round of a bout broadcast by Showtime.
