Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), is expecting a very dangerous fight for both participants when IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin face Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in a rematch.

The contest takes place on September 15 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

"They are risking a lot, it's a fight where the two of them are staking their future because the eyes of the world will be them on the 15th and the winner will be the best fighter of the moment - in the world, in every divisions - and the winner will take the highest recognition", Sulaiman said.

Golovkin (38-1-0, 34 KOs) and Canelo (49-2-1, 34 KOs) fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in their first bout, in September 2017 in Las Vegas.

The rematch was originally scheduled to take place on May 5, and it was canceled because Canelo was about to be suspended for six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, because he tested positive for the banned clenbuterol in two random drug tests taken in February.

For this upcoming bout, both boxers are being tested in a very strict manner by VADA [Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency].

Because of that, Sulaiman, who has been a big advocate for Canelo's innocence in the doping scandal, says this rematch will fully redeem the boxer.

"Win or lose, Canelo is free of any question of doping," Sulaiman said.

He feels the rematch has a lot more hype when compared to the first meeting - and Sulaiman expects fireworks in the contest.

"They have already measured themselves against each other, they know what they have to do, there is much more interest than there was in the first fight," Sulaiman said.

For this event, considered the fight of the year in international boxing, the WBC will also present a special commemorative belt to the winner.
