Earlier this week in Ventura, California, WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz participated in an open media workout in advance of his September 17th clash against Floyd Mayweather, set to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s by far the biggest test of Ortiz’s young career and the 24-year old looked to be in great spirits and tremendous shape.

WBC Welterweight World Champion Victor Ortiz hits the heavy bag on August 30, 2011 in Ventura, California during a media workout in preparation for his September 17, 2011 world title defense against Six-Time World Champion Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada which will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View. WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22KOs) has promised to punish Floyd Mayweather Jr. (41-0, 25KOs) on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Ortiz vowed "he's done." It will be Mayweather's first fight since since beating Shane Mosley by unanimous decision in May of 2010. Ortiz, 10 years younger at 24, won the title in April with a twelve round decision over previously undefeated Andre Berto

by David P. Greisman - We used to have countdowns for these fights, one last 30-minute gasp to sell a major HBO pay-per-view or “World Championship Boxing” broadcast. If you were already thinking about seeing the big fight, then this was the network’s bid at closing the sale. And if you hadn’t yet considered tuning in, then the “Countdown To…” formula got straight to business. You learned who the fighters were and why they were important. You heard about the stakes of the fight, the storyline coming in and what victory would mean. It was a commercial, yes, but one with documentary value. You left a better-informed customer, energized and excited. At some point the idea of pre-fight documentaries became corrupted by the contrived nature of reality television. The featured players act for the cameras rather than have their actions captured by them. The scenes and storylines becomes less about the fight than about establishing characters and conflict.

I caught up with Andre Berto and his trainer Tony Morgan at the tail end of their training camp in San Mateo, California for their September 3 IBF welterweight title clash with Jan Zaveck in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Floyd Mayweather's next opponent is the total package ... in more ways than one ... and last week, he let it all hang out in an underwear photo shoot ... and TMZ has the pics. WBC world welterweight champion Victor Ortiz is now the spokesman for an underwear site called Freshpair.com -- and as part of the deal, the 24-year-old agreed to model some of his favorite undies. Mayweather is a huge favorite in the Sept. 17th fight, which takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Probably the only thing more anticipated than Floyd Mayweather Jr. returning to the ring against Victor Ortiz on September 17th, is "Money" Mayweather's return to HBO’s documentary series 24/7. After all, 24/7 is Floyd’s brainchild and a number of the boxer's most memorable moments have taken place on the program. The first episode debuted on Saturday night, and Mayweather did not disappoint as the show’s closing will be talked about for days.

WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz is not impressed with Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s style of fighting, or his undefeated 41-0 record. Ortiz defends his title against Mayweather on September 17th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The bookmakers have listed Ortiz as a serious underdog, but that only motivates the 24-year-old boxer.
