Earlier this week in Ventura, California, WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz participated in an open media workout in advance of his September 17th clash against Floyd Mayweather, set to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s by far the biggest test of Ortiz’s young career and the 24-year old looked to be in great spirits and tremendous shape.

Moments before Ortiz took the ring, I shared a few words with his trainer Danny Garcia, as we discussed his history with Victor, his inspiring upset over Andre Berto this past April, and how they plan to defeat the heavily-favored Mayweather next month. Towards the end of our talk the attention turned to some recent headlines that were made by Floyd Jr. and his father during the first episode of HBO’s 24/7 series to promote the fight.

Last Friday night the boxing world witnessed the two Mayweathers get into a verbal tirade with one another following Floyd’s workout inside of his personal gym. A small debate turned into an argument and the two men began screaming at one another, with Floyd Jr. saying some derogatory remarks.

The tussle between father and son has been the talk of the net and Garcia admitted that he too was watching.

“I saw it. I was just laughing because I don’t really pay attention to that. Because that doesn’t mean that much. If they do have problems, it’s their business,” Garcia stated.

The subdued trainer also pointed out that perhaps the whole fight was staged and that he doesn’t expect Floyd’s mental state to be shaken whatsoever by the time he enters the ring.

“It also can be fixed to show the people.  To show us, you never know. It might be just a little trick. I don’t pay attention to that. We’re ready for the best Mayweather.”

All eyes will certainly be fixed to the screen when episode two airs this Friday night.
