WBO featherweight world champion Oscar Valdez is done recovering from the broken jaw that he suffered against Scott Quigg in his last fight, which took place in March.

Valdez, despite the injury, fought his way to a twelve round decision win against a fighter who was much bigger due to his inability to make weight on Friday.

Since then, Valdez has parted ways with head coach Manny Robles and hired on Eddy Reynoso, who is best known for training Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.

Valdez is now ready to get back in the mix and expects to fight again at the end of the year or in early 2019.

"I feel good, but I am not the doctor. In a week I have my last evaluation, the doctor is almost sure that he will give me the green light to return to the ring, but to do so I have to go through a training process to be able to prepare for a fight, it is rumored that I'll be fighting in December or in January a fight is assured," Valdez told Sports in Claro.

"I have a good relationship with my former coach Manny Robles, he helped me become a world champion, but now I've been placed with another coach, Eddy Reynoso, and I think it was a good decision. We've seen that he's done a good job with Canelo Alvarez."

As far as his stablemate Canelo, Valdez (24-0, 19 KOs) feels very confident that he will defeat IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in their upcoming rematch, on September 15th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

"I think the draw was good [in the first fight] because neither one was superior. I think that Canelo will win [the rematch] due to a lot of things and I'm not saying this because I'm now working with his trainer - I've always I've said this," Valdez said.

"Canelo Alvarez is a great fighter and he deserves a little more respect from the public, and when someone is that disciplined you can not bet against him."
