Having sleepless nights and being drenched in sweat had become the norm for Tony Harrison. With only a round and a half remaining in his second showdown against Jermell Charlo, Harrison believed that he was on the verge of closing the mouth of the pugnacious Houston native for good. But while Harrison attempted to cruise to the finish line, Charlo stepped on the gas in the penultimate round, stopping him in the 11th.

Several years later, the 32-year-old former champion has battled long stretches of inactivity and a head-scratching performance. After sitting on the sidelines for nearly a year and a half, Harrison (29-3-1, 21 KOs) was forced to settle for a split-decision draw against Bryant Perrella. But regardless of his stock plummeting, Harrison placed himself right back in the championship mix following his lopsided victory against Sergio Garcia on April 9th, 2022.

Charlo, however, was ushered into the surgical room due to a broken left hand. From there, a light bulb flickered on in the mind of Harrison. Now, after hammering out a deal, the Detroit native will make the long trek to Australia to take on Tszyu on March 12th.

With an undefeated record and one helluva engine, Tszyu (21-0, 15 KOs) has shown a willingness to bite down on his mouthpiece and go to war. In his U.S. debut early last year, Tszyu peeled himself up off the deck against Terrell Gausha. Despite tasting the canvas, apprehension didn't consume Tszyu as he would go on to dominate the fringe contender.

Harrison, admittedly, tips his cap and salutes Tszyu for his tenacity. Nevertheless, his dogged personality and willingness to fight fire with fire, doesn't lead Harrison to believe that his upcoming foe will be idoneous on the night.

“He’s as tough as it gets but I don’t think that’s enough. If that’s all you got to offer, being tough, that’s just not enough.”
