Tim Tszyu is expecting to fight again by early April.
It was on December 17 when, in his first date under his new trainer Pedro Diaz, at a catchweight of 157lbs he convincingly outpointed the previously undefeated Anthony Velazquez.
Immediately afterwards he spoke of potentially fighting as early as February in Las Vegas, and also of targeting the WBO junior-middleweight Xander Zayas, but his promoters No Limit are again preparing to match him back in his home country of Australia in what will be a non-title contest as he continues to rebuild.
Zayas and the WBA champion Abass Baraou enter a unification showdown on January 31, by when the 31-year-old Tszyu – who is returning to Australia to attend his younger brother Nikita’s fight on Friday with Michael Zerafa, also at a catchweight of 157lbs, at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane – will be back in Miami working with the Cuban Diaz.
He was expected to take a break from the sport to recover from defeat in his rematch with Sebastian Fundora – his third in four fights – but instead prioritised working with Diaz and returning to the ring before the conclusion of 2025. After the victory over Velazquez, his next date could even come by the end of March.
