Rising junior middleweight contender Tim Tszyu is targeting a world title shot in 2021.

The 26-year-old was back in action on Wednesday, when he demolished Bowyn Morgan in the first round at Bankwest Stadium. Bowyn went down twice before the contest was called off.

Now the handlers for the unbeaten star are looking to get him the winner of the WBO junior middleweight title clash between Patrick Teixeira and Brian Castano.

The WBO recently ordered that if current champion Teixeira is unable to arrange a fight with Castano by January 6 – which at the moment appears unlikely due to coronavirus travel constraints – then Tszyu would be in line to fight Castano.

The winner of such a fight would then be required to face Texeira.

“[I want a world title fight] next. That’s it. I’m done with Australia. I want the Mexicans, the Americans, the top-level boys. I’m getting more mature. I just turned 26, I haven’t even reached my peak, I’ve got another three or four years before I reach me peak," Tszyu said.

“That’s why I want the best experience, to fight the best fighters right now. This was a world title eliminator for me, there’s only two names on the hit list for me now – Castano and Texeira … my managers have a plan for me.”

Tszyu’s manager Glen Jennings will look to bring the title fight to Australia.

“Based on his performance, as of [Thursday morning] for breakfast [promoter] Matt Rose and I will sit down,” Jennings said.

"We’ve already got the parameters of what we need to do for this world title fight. It’s just a matter of the pieces falling into place early January. Whether it be end of March or early April, we want to do it here in Australia.

“There’s a lot of interest worldwide in what we’re doing in Australia. This young fella has broken a record; he’s the only fighter in the world who has had two major stadium fights. The world is watching. The world knows that Tim Tszyu is ready for the world stage. We’ll be negotiating and starting to get ready for that as of [Thursday].”
