WBO World Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders has been in pretty savage mood of late with former foes David Lemieux and Chris Eubank Jr the latest victims of his taunts.
Fresh from labelling Canelo a ‘drug cheat’ after the Mexican tested positive for Clenbuterol, a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency, and calling out the Guadalajara superstar’s May 5th opponent Gennady Golovkin, he has now taken aim at his two past rivals.
As if beating them in the ring wasn’t enough, 28-year-old Saunders, who faces St Helens’ Martin Murray next up on April 14th at The O2 Arena in London, hasn’t let his one-time opponents get away that lightly.
It started with a 'Morning Dave' message on Twitter for the Canadian boxer, who Saunders overcame so impressively last December, after Lemieux had tweeted 'Another great day in the gym things looking positive'. We’re not sure if he was as upbeat after seeing his conqueror’s reply.
iFL TV then caught up with the Hatfield fighter at his gym in Sheffield where he trains with Dominic Ingle.
Keeping loose as he bounced around on his toes he cheekily offered to teach both Lemieux and Eubank Jr, who he beat via a split decision in 2014, ‘basic and simple’ techniques which he said are essential in the boxing world.
The ‘jab’ was top of the list with Saunders saying that was one of the key reasons why Eubank Jr failed to cause George Groves any trouble in their recent World Title clash last month.
