Ruslan Provodnikov: record, next fight and profile →
BoxingScene.com recently caught up with prominent boxing manager Vadim Kornilov whose stable of fighters include Ruslan Provodnikov, Viktor Postol, Denis Lebedev and many others. In this Q&A, Kornilov gives us updates on Provodnikov, Postol and Egor Mekhontsev. BoxingScene.com: What is the latest with Ruslan Provodnikov? I read in an interview that you did recently that Ruslan may fight in Russia next.
The last we saw of junior welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov he was dropping a close twelve round decision against Lucas Matthysse on the night of April 18th in Verona, New York. Now Banner Promotions is looking for his next fight. Artie Pelullo, the head of Banner Promotions told BoxingScene.com on Monday afternoon:
Vadim Kornilov, manager of ex-WBO light welterweight champion and one of the Russian state's biggest stars, Ruslan Provodnikov (24-4, 17 KOs), traced his protege's future in a quickie with a Fight Club TV reporter during the action of another of his boxers Sergey Kuzmin. "Ruslan's fight against Matthysse was very close, and we know why we lost it. We know those reasons, and we can do better. A rematch with the Argentinean is our priority but Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) has different plans at the moment, he is on his native land right now.
Former WBO light welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov was disappointed by what he saw during the 'Fight of The Century' between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Provodnikov is a blood and guts warrior who draws high ratings on the cable networks due to his very fan friendly style. He was ringside at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to support Pacquiao. Both boxers are trained by Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.
Last week BoxingScene.com caught up with Artie Pellulo of Banner Promotions to get his thoughts on the April 18th clash between Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov. Matthysse was hurt late in the fight but was able to hold on to win a close decision in a sure fire Fight of the Year candidate. Pellulo called for a rematch immediately after the fight and feels that the fight may have played out differently if Provodnikov hadn't been cut by an accident headbutt early in the fight.
Last week former super lightweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov told BoxingScene.com that he was surprised to hear that his former opponent Tim Bradley would be facing Jessie Vargas in an HBO televised main event on June 27th at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. Provodnikov lost a close decision to Bradley at the same venue in March, 2013 in a battle that won "Fight of the Year" honors. Provodnikov has unsuccessfully chased a rematch with Bradley since that fight happened and said that - "Vargas is the worst possible opponent that he could face."
Radio Rahim catches up with promoter Artie Pelullo to discuss Willie Monroe's HBO televised fight against WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, strategy and more. Gennady Golovkin vs. Willie Monroe is a 12-round middleweight world championship bout presented by K2 Promotions and GGG Promotions in association with Banner Promotions and the Forum. The fight will take place Saturday, May 16 at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. PT and the first bout starts at 4:45 p.m. PT., the HBO World Championship Boxing telecast begins at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Former super lightweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov wasn't very impressed with this past Saturday's mega-fight that Floyd Mayweather won via unanimous decision over Manny Pacquiao. Provodnikov said that he knows Mayweather has a safety first style but had high hopes for a more exciting fight. "Before the fight I actually thought it was going to be the 'Fight of the Century' - something exciting. But afterwards it wasn't that exciting to watch. I already knew going to a fight involving Mayweather you don't expect a lot of excitement and I think any exciting moments in the fight were coming from Manny anyway.," Provodnikov explained.
BoxingScene.com recently spoke to former WBO super lightweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov who is fresh off of a narrow points loss to Lucas Matthysse. The high octane affair took place on April 18th on Verona, NY. While Provodnikov's first priority is a rematch with Matthysse, he still covets a rematch with Tim Bradley, whom he lost a close decision to in 2013, in a battle that won Fight of the Year honors. The fight definitely won't happen next as Bradley is locked in to face undefeated super lightweight champion Jessie Vargas who will be moving up to welterweight for the fight. The fight is scheduled to take place on June 27th and be broadcast by HBO.
BoxingScene.com caught up with Vadim Kornilov, manager of former super lightweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov and several others, shortly after Floyd Mayweather's unanimous decision victory over Manny Pacquiao. While Mayweather won the super-fight decisively, the lack of action didn't satisfy many of the paying customers. Kornilov said that he was swamped with messages after the fight with fans asking for a rematch between between Provodnikov and Lucas Matthysse. The two warriors battled it out on April 18th with Matthysse winning a close decision.
