WBA super flyweight champion Román "Chocolatito" González will travel to Mexico on Saturday, September 26 to finish his camp with his team, prior to his fight in the Aztec territory against Israel González on a card where Juan Francisco "El Gallo" Estrada and Carlos "The Prince" Cuadras will collide in the main event for the WBC title.
While Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn formally announced a slate of fall fights that will take place in the United Kingdom, including the Alexander Povetkin-Dillian Whyte heavyweight rematch on Nov. 21, the schedule for his Matchroom Boxing USA remains a work in progress. However, multiple sources told BoxingScene that there are three cards in the works that would stream on DAZN -- one in October and two in November -- as follow-ups to the one card Matchroom USA has put on since boxing returned during the coronavirus pandemic. That card was on Aug. 15 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Jessica McCaskill outpointed Cecilia Braekhus in a major upset to take the undisputed women’s welterweight title.
With lucrative options looming ahead, Joshua Franco is more focused than ever to take care of present-day business. The 24-year old San Antonio still draws fond memories of his secondary junior bantamweight title win over Andrew Moloney (21-1, 14KOs), dethroning the previously unbeaten Australian this past June in Las Vegas. The WBA ”Regular” version of the title he claimed puts him on a straightaway path toward a dream fight with four-division and reigning WBA “Super” champion Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez (49-2, 41KOs) whenever such a fight can be ordered.
It seems that a Mexican civil war could be brewing, as a rematch inches closer between the super flyweight world champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Francisco "Gallo" Estrada and the former world champion, Carlos Cuadras. The rematch would take place on the tentative date of October 17 in the United States.
WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada, who recently overcame a battle with COVID-19, feels motivated to return on a tentative date of October 17. He's ready to face former champion Carlos 'Príncipe' Cuadras in a rematch or WBA champion Román 'Chocolatito' González in a unification.
WBA super flyweight world champion Román "Chocolatito" González is not making any excuses for demanding a lot of money for a potential rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada, who holds the WBC's version of the title.
The fight between former two-time junior bantamweight world titlist Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Thai countryman and former flyweight world titlist Amnat Ruenroeng has been rescheduled again. The 10-round bout will take place Aug. 1 at the Work Point Studios in Bang Phun, Thailand. The fight is contracted at 120 pounds, Bank Thainchai Pisitwuttinan of promoter WP Boxing told BoxingScene.com on Friday.
Román 'Chocolatito' González is now free to negotiate a potential unification with WBC super flyweight world champion Juan Francisco Estrada. This past Tuesday, Joshua Franco pulled off a stunner when he dropped and decisioned undefeated Andrew 'Monster' Moloney to capture the WBA "regular" super flyweight title at the MGM Grand's Conference Center in Las Vegas.
Defeating Andrew Moloney on Tuesday night wouldn’t just make Joshua Franco a 115-pound world champion. Overcoming Moloney in a 12-round title fight ESPN will televise from Las Vegas also would move the 24-year-old Franco into prime position for the fight he has always wanted – a shot at Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.
Zanfer Promotions CEO Fernando Beltran, who promotes WBC super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada, is holding his nose at the recent financial demands from WBA champion, Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez.
