WBC silver featherweight champion Robinson "Robin" Castellanos (19-9, 12KOs) is demanding a crack at the full World Boxing Council championship, currently held by Jhonny Gonzalez. On Saturday night in Cancun, Castellanos knocked out Dereck Wilson in six rounds. Afterwards, he got on the mic and told the crowd that he wants that full title shot. Castellanos was in line to face then champion Daniel Ponce De Leon, who lost the title to Abner Mares in May, and then Mares lost the title to Gonzalez in August. Gonzalez and Mares will have a rematch in December.

Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) and Cancun Boxing (Pepe Gomez) are staging a show on Saturday night at the Arena Oasis in Cancun, Mexico. The fight will headline "Sabados De Corona" on Televisa. Wilson comes in with a record of 10-3-1, with three wins by knockout. Castellanos has a tally of 30 wins and 9 losses, with 15 knockouts. Initially, Castallenos weighed in 2.6 pounds over the limit, while his opponent showed up on the scale at 125.8 pounds. Just over an hour later, Castellanos returned at 126 on the limit.
WBC featherweight champion Abner Mares (26-0, 14KOs) advised BoxingScene.com that three potential opponents are being discussed for his planned return in the fall. Mares will face either undefeated Jayson Velez of Puerto Rico, top contender Robinson Castellanos or former champion Jhonny Gonzalez. Mares is hoping to return on the undercard of the mega-match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, which takes place on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
