Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach admits that he will be watching with a lot of interest when Saul "Canelo" Alvarez faces Erislandy Lara on July 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Roach, who trains WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, would like to have his fighter face Canelo at 154-pounds. Top Rank wants to bring Cotto back on December 6th or 13th, at New York's Madison Square Garden or a venue in Las Vegas.

Roach is unsure if Cotto will remain at 160-pounds. One option at 160 is WBA/IBO champion Gennady Golovkin, who faces Daniel Geale next month at MSG. But Cotto has a mandatory challenger waiting in Marco Antonio Rubio.

"Alvarez could be a fight for us. I'm not sure [if that's going to be the fight], it depends on what comes next. Alvarez is a big name out there, but he's got a big fight coming up with Lara. If he wins, that could be a fight for us at 154. Some people are mentioning Triple G, but I don't know [if we're staying at 160]. We're going to wait and see what the promoters come up with and go from there," Roach told Vangard Deportes.
