Las Vegas - Trainer Freddie Roach believes Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is struggling to make the catch-weight limit of 155-pounds for Saturday's fight with Miguel Cotto at the Mandalay Bay.
Canelo started his training camp way in advance of the fight and there are rumors circulating that he's really squeezing down to get to the limit.
Roach, who trains Cotto, expects Canelo to have a significant size advantage on the night of the fight and strongly believes the additional size will backfire for the Mexican star.
"When we get in the ring, he's going to be a lot bigger than us, but that night be a mistake for him because too much weight and too much fluid slows you down. That wasn't an issue when I was a fighter because you weighed in 6 hours before a fight and now you have 24 hours. So it's easier now for them to bring that weight back up," Roach explained.
"We're going to come to the ring at 160, 159 and he's going to be 175 at least I would say. Our game plan is, part of that, to take advantage of all that weight gain also.
"[Cotto] never lets his weight go ever now. He's always around 161, 162. He trains, he's exercising all the time and keeps his weight down."
