Richard Commey and Jose Pedraza are close in age, both coming off losses to former champions and at similar stages in their careers.

Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey are set for their head-on collision which presents a must-win scenario for both participants. The pair of former titlists both made weight for their scheduled ten-round junior welterweight bout headlining an ESPN televised tripleheader from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Pedraza (29-4, 14KOs) was 139.8 pounds while Commey checked in at a lean and fit 138.8 pounds.

While Richard Commey’s lightweight title reign was ultimately a transient one, the 135-pound weight division had been increasingly kind to him. Nevertheless, after squeezing down his fairly big frame to make weight over the years, the 35-year-old from Accra, Ghana, is looking forward to beginning life as a full-fledged 140-pounder.

Jose Pedraza didn’t hesitate to take another difficult fight after his points loss to Jose Ramirez five months ago. From Pedraza’s perspective, beating Richard Commey on Saturday night will move him into position to secure a 140-pound title shot, something that has eluded the two-division champion since he moved up from the lightweight division. Like Pedraza, Commey is a former 135-pound champion who wants to establish himself as a threat in his first fight at the 140-pound limit.

Two former world champions are set for an Oklahoma showdown, as Jose “Sniper” Pedraza will battle Richard “RC” Commey in the 10-round junior welterweight main event Saturday, Aug. 27, at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa.

As BoxingScene.com reported last week, Puerto Rico's Jose "Sniper" Pedraza and Richard Commey underwent a change of date and venue. Instead of fighting on July 23 in Minnesota, Pedraza and Commey will square off in a battle of former world champions on August 27 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event will be broadcast on ESPN.

The Jose Pedraza-Richard Commey fight has a new site to go along with its new date. BoxingScene.com has learned that the 10-round, 140-pound between Pedraza and Commey will headline an ESPN broadcast August 27 from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Puerto Rico’s Pedraza, a former IBF junior lightweight and WBO lightweight champ, and Ghana’s Commey, an ex-IBF lightweight champion, were initially scheduled to square off July 23 at Grand Casino Hinckley in Hinckley, Minnesota.

The stakes have been raised for a crossroads bout between Joet Gonzalez and Isaac Dogboe. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the already planned ten-round featherweight bout will now headline a July 23 Top Rank show on ESPN+ from Grand Casino in Hinckley, Minnesota. The upgrade from co-feature came upon the decision to relocate its originally scheduled main event between former titlists Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey to an August 27 show on an ESPN platform.
