It’s been a long time since Richard Commey hoisted a world title over his shoulders, roughly four years to be exact. In the immediate aftermath of his transient championship reign, Commey’s career has taken a drastic turn.

Jose Ramirez was in championship mode despite the absence of a major title at stake. The former unified junior welterweight champ was right at the 140-pound divisional limit for his crossroads bout with Richard Commey. Their scheduled 12-round bout headlines an ESPN tripleheader Saturday evening from Save Mart Arena in Fresno, California.

The fighting pride of California’s Central Valley and one of boxing’s pound-for-pound queens are joining forces for a special Fresno Fight Night. Former unified 140-pound world champion Jose Ramirez will meet former lightweight world champion Richard “RC” Commey in the 12-round junior welterweight main event Saturday, March 25, at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
By Keith Idec - Jose Ramirez was willing to take the risk inside the ring against Regis Prograis. The proud former WBC/WBO 140-pound champion is insulted by those that suggested this week that he is “afraid” to fight the powerful southpaw who won the WBC belt last month that Ramirez once owned. Ramirez reminded his doubters that his resume proves that he is willing to fight the most imposing opponents – including the dangerous southpaw Prograis knocked out to win his title, Jose Zepeda, and the only boxer who has beaten him and Prograis, Josh Taylor.
Sometimes, not losing is good for everyone. No one likes a draw but for veteran former titlists Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey it wasn’t a bad result. As expected, fans got a good fight on Saturday night. Each man was buzzed in spots, working through it and continuing to push for avenues to victory. Commey’s big punch factored heavily in Pedraza’s approach early. Pedraza’s skill and steady work factored late, particularly with his work to the body.
Jose Pedraza hoped that a victory over Richard Commey on Saturday night would’ve moved him into position to fight Teofimo Lopez next.
By Keith Idec - A cut around Richard Commey’s left eye rejuvenated Jose Pedraza on Saturday night. An opportunistic Pedraza rallied after Commey suffered that cut in the sixth round and took control of their 10-round, 140-pound bout. The former two-division champion seemingly out-worked Commey, who faded in the later rounds, but it wasn’t enough to win a 10-round main event ESPN televised from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
