Rafael Marquez May Have Leo Santa Cruz in The Fall

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is ready to satisfy the championship wishes of former multi-division beltholder Rafael Marquez, who recently signed a four fight agreement with his company. Marquez (41-8, 37KOs) wants to get title shot in the near future, and the veteran is also interested in facing Leo Santa Cruz (24-0, 14KOs). If Santa Cruz defeats WBC super bantamweight champion Victor Terrazas on August 24th - then a fight between Marquez and Santa Cruz might become a reality in the fall.

Looks like there is some clarity regarding a Golden Boy Promotions card taking place on or around September 7th. A special edition of Showtime Championship Boxing will take place on Friday, September 6th, Gordon Hall told Boxingscene.com Thursday morning. Hall is the Executive Producer of ShoBox: the New Generation. "September 6 will not be a ShoBox (telecast)," Hall wrote in an email. "It will be a Showtime Boxing Special Edition."

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene.com that his company is working on several big shows in September. Schaefer is targeting the first week of September for a card that is going to feature a potential fight between heavyweights Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19KOs) and Chris Arreola (35-3, 30KOs). Also being targeted for the first week of September is the return of former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz (29-4, 22KOs), with his potential opponent being rumored as veteran Alfonso Gomez. Former champion Rafael Marquez (41-8, 37KOs), and comebacking welterweight Josesito Lopez (30-6, 18KOs), will also be featured on the early September card.

Former champion Rafael Marquez (41-8, 37KOs) has signed a four fight agreement with Golden Boy Promotions. Marquez, 38-years-old, plans to return on a Golden Boy card on September 7th, and then wants to have three more fights before ending his career. Marquez last fought in October of last year, losing by way of a ninth round TKO to Cristian Mijares. Marquez was very angry with the stoppage, stating the referee jumped in too quickly in a very close fight. At the time of the stoppage, Marquez was ahead on one card and down on the other two.
