The International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum announced today the members of the Class of 2023. Living inductees include champions Timothy Bradley Jr. (USA), Carl Froch (UK) and Rafael Marquez (Mexico) in the men’s Modern category; champions Alicia Ashley (Jamaica) and Laura Serrano (Mexico) in the women’s Modern category; matchmaker Brad Goodman (USA), trainer Joe Goossen (USA) and promotional executive Brad Jacobs (USA) in the Non-Participant category; and television executive Seth Abraham (USA) and broadcaster Tim Ryan (Canada) in the Observer category.

Whether or not he is one day elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Israel Vazquez led a career that few boxing fans in this lifetime will ever forget. The former two-time World junior featherweight champion remains best remembered for his four-fight set with Rafael Marquez (even if most fans choose to only remember their first three). Most observers have a difficult time choosing their favorite fight among their first three meetings in March 2007, August 2007 and March 2008.

Israel Vazquez will never forget his second fight with Rafael Marquez—nor the fact that it nearly didn’t happen at all. The former two-time World junior featherweight champion and future Hall of Famer still carries vivid memories of virtually every bout in his illustrious career, particularly his memorable series with Marquez. All four bouts aired live on Showtime, which replayed the first three fights of the series this past Saturday evening.

The fierce Mexican rivals squared off in three consecutive award-winning fights which aired live on SHOWTIME in 2007 and 2008 before meeting for a fourth and final time in 2010. The first three bouts were all contested with the WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship on the line.
