Holyfield Now Eyes an Alexander Povetkin Showdown

Two-weight world champion Evander Holyfield has told WBN that recent comments made by WBC title holder Vitali Klitschko would not stop the American pursuing his dream of regaining a version of the world crown. The 49 year-old, who has not held recognised title for twelve years, had actively been seeking a shot at either of the belt-hoarding Ukrainian brothers since scoring back-to-back victories over Frans Botha and Brian Nielsen - without any success.

Former four time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29KOs) is ready to accept the challenge of WBA "regular" champion Alexander Povetkin (22-0, 15KOs). According to Holyfield, discussions are still ongoing to stage the fight on December 17th in Hallenstadion, Zurich, Switzerland. At the moment, Holyfield, 48-years-old, has no intention of retiring.

According to its official web portal, Zürich-based Hallenstadion will be the venue for the return of Alexander Povetkin (22-0, 15 KOs), as he make his first defense of the WBA (“regular”) heavyweight championship. Hallenstadion’s news list announces that the first ever Russian super heavyweight gold medalist will face multi-time champion and ring legend Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29 KOs) on December 17, almost three years after Holyfield suffered a controversial loss to Nikolai Valuev at the very same stadium. Holyfield is presently unranked by the World Boxing Association. Hallenstadion seats around 13.000 fans.

Promoter Wilfried Sauerland, the owner of Sauerland Event, has responded to the recent rumors that heavyweight Alexander Povetkin will make the first defense of his WBA "regular" title against former four time champion Evander Holyfield on December 17th in Zurich. Sauerland disputed the report but not entirely. He says Holyfield is only one of the many options that his company is exporing for Povetkin''s first defense, and Zurich is one of several locations being considered to host the champion's next fight. Sauerland's company is currently holding discussions with several possible candidates.

According to German outlet Bild, Alexander Povetkin (22-0, 15KOs) could make the first defense of the WBA "regular" heavyweight title on December 17th in Zurich, Switzerland against former four time champion Evander Holyfield (44-10-2, 29KOs). Holyfield has fought in Zurich in the past, losing a controversial twelve round majority decision to then WBA champion Nikolia Valuev in 2008. Holyfield was ringside on Saturday in Germany as Povetkin decisioned Ruslan Chagaev to capture the vacant WBA crown.

Former four time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield has issued his request to fight the WBA's new "regular" champion Alexander Povetkin in the fall. Holyfield sat ringside at Erfurt, Germany on Saturday night and watched Povetkin win a twelve round decision over Ruslan Chagaev to capture the title. Once the decision was announced, Holyfield entered the ring to give his congrats to the new champion.
