Photo: Michael Katsidis vs. Josh King - Ready To Go To War

"THERE WAS GRINS, SNARLS, STEELY EYES - a bit of everything on the eve of TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 16 at today's weigh in. Michael Katsidis and Josh King wasted no time eye balling each other going face to face.

Katsidis, a former two time World Champion and King a former dual WBO regional title holder will meet for the Brayd Smith WUC welterweight title.

In the heavyweight ranks Herman Ene-Purcell and King Afa Tatupu will also meet for the first ever Brayd Smith WUC heavyweight title. Ene-Purcell is rising up the heavyweight ranks and is now rated number one in the OPBF while King Afa is a former New Zealand champion, who lost his title to current World Champion Joseph Parker.

On a stacked card reigning Queensland welterweight title holder Jamie Hilt takes on polished New South Welshmen Eddie Dos Santos. Bowen prospect Gareth Prior takes on Toowoomba Maks Chylewski and undefeated reigning Aussie champ Brent Rice meets Thai hardman Apichat in Rice's first International test.

The biggest roar was for the little big men, Adrian Alloy Young and Junior Bomber Richards. The two young local lads will box an exhibition contest.
 
The big card also features the $5000 footy tag team contest where eight local footy clubs will square off in a knockout tournament with the winner walking away with the prize money for their club.

Earlier in the day will be the third Brayd Smith Cup City vs Country amateur tournament featuring 13 bouts between the State's up and coming prospects.

The Brayd Smith Cup card begins at 4pm and will be followed by the pro show which will begin at 6.45pm.

Doors open at 3.15pm.

I remember when Katsidis went up to junior welter and his shots didn't affect Albert Mensah. Hopefully he can handle a welter. He was fun to watch but I wish he'd retire and enjoy life after boxing.

Even though he is shot Rocky should KO this guy whom I didn't realize was smaller, big drop in class for Katsidis.
