Troy Williamson continued his steady rise as a professional as he ground out a points decision over Harry Scarff in a super-welterweight ten-rounder at York Hall on Saturday.

Before Irish sensation Michael "Mick" Conlan enters the ring against Colombian slugger Belmar Preciado in front of a raucous St. Patrick’s Day crowd at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden (ESPN+, 8 p.m. ET), many of the sport’s brightest young stars will look to steal the holiday spotlight.

Former world champion Andy Lee sees choosing opponents for the hugely talented Paddy Donovan as one of his biggest challenges. Lee, who manages and trains Limerick starlet Donovan (3-0, 2 KOs) and is also on Tyson Fury’s new coaching team, is delighted by the progress his young charge has made on a trio of #MTKFightNight events.

Paddy Donovan is on course to be handed some dream undercard slots in what looks likely to be a busy 2020. The Limerick fighter progressed from hyped underage amateur to lauded pro prospect at the tail end of last year. Donovan inked a coveted promotional pact with Bob Arum’s famed Top Rank Inc. ahead of making his professional debut.

Paddy ‘The Real Deal’ Donovan pulled off a ‘Christmas Cracker’ last night at the University of Bolton Stadium, Bolton in the UK on an MTK promotion with a 3rd round KO win against the tough and durable Nicaraguan fighter, Oscar Amador in their welterweight encounter.

Paddy ‘The Real Deal’ Donovan put on a masterclass performance to win all six rounds of his welterweight encounter with the tough and durable Nicaraguan fighter, Danny Mendoza at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow, Scotland.

Donovan confidently started round one of the paid ranks using an effective right jab to find his range and walk down his Mexican opponent Arturo Lopez. When the opportunity came the rangy Irish southpaw unleashed a devastating left hand sending the Mexican visitor stumbling to the canvas and being counted out by the referee at an official time of 1.16 in round one.

Former amateur standout Paddy Donovan enjoyed an explosive pro debut, scoring a one-punch 1st round knockout of Mexico's Arturo Lopez (5-13-3, 0KOs) in their welterweight bout which opened the livestream.

Andy Lee was blessed to end his career with a win, outpointing Keande Leatherwood in their March 2017 clash at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The bout took place one day after St. Patrick’s Day, the perfect backdrop against which to bow out gracefully, even if the fighting pride of Limerick, Ireland wouldn’t make that final decision for another 11 months.

The belief coming out of Ireland at the start of 2019 was that Limerick’s Paddy Donovan boasted a terrific shot at representing the nation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. A pair of controversial losses may have ended that dream for the 13-time national champion, but it also opened the door for plans he was otherwise prepared to put on hold.
