Valdez, Zewski, Korobov, Sosa and Vanes Win in Dallas

American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas - Featherweight Oscar Valdez (5-0, 5KOs) demolished Gil Garcia (5-5-1, 1KO) in two rounds. Valdez hurt Garcia in the second, and then jumped in him with both hands until the referee stepped in to wave things off. Garcia was down once in the fight. Welterweight contender Mikael Zewski (20-0, 15KOs) won an eight round unanimous decision over Damian Frias (19-8-1, 10KOs). All three judges saw it 77-74. Zewski dropped Frias in the first minute with a hard shot to the body. But then the veteran lasted lasted the rest of the way as Zewski outworked him, but he was unable to get a stoppage. Frias, who came on strong in the final minute of the fight, has never been stopped.

Radio City Music Hall, New York City - Super featherweight banger Felix Verdejo (5-0, 4KOs) of Puerto Rico beat down Steve Gutierrez (4-4-1, 2KOs) with a big first round knockout. A series of hooks to the body sent Gurierrez down the first time and then Verdjejo unleashed a combo with a massive right hand that finished the job. Hot super middleweight prospect Jesse Hart (7-0, 5 KOs) drilled Marlon Farr (2-3) in three rounds. Several hard right hands sent Farr down to the mat in the third, with the second knockdown putting Farr down for the count.

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum dropped the names of several fighters who are going to be positioned on the Nonito Donaire vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux undercard on April 13th at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Arum said super middleweight prospect Jesse Hart (5-0, 4KOs) will be involved, Puerto Rican super featherweight Felix Verdejo (3-0, 2KOs) will have his fifth pro fight on the show, and rising welterweight Mikael Zewski (18-0, 14KOs) of Canada will be in action as well.

In the first fight of the evening on the undercard at Madison Square Garden, Ronald Ellis brought his record up to 7-0 with five knockouts with a workman-like unanimous decision against Steven Tyner, who dropped to 3-10-2 in a four-round bout at super middleweight. Both guys tossed bombs back and forth for most of the fight- either that or the microphone was particularly sensitive to every piece of noise in the ring. Ellis was the slicker and smoother fighter, even if Tyner did his best to keep up with Ellis and punch with him when the two got in close.

Lucian Bute Tested at Home, Decisions a Game Grachev

Bell Centre, Montreal - Bell Centre, Montreal - In a much tougher fight than expected, former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1, 24KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Denis Grachev (12-1-1, 8KOs) at a catch-weight of 170-pounds to win the NABF light heavyweight title. The scores were 115-113, 118-110 and 116-112. Bute returns from a shocking May TKO loss to Carl Froch, and has a rematch set with Froch in March of next year - if Froch beats Yusaf Mack in two weeks. Grachev was coming off an April knockout of rising light heavyweight Ismayl Sillakh.

The fighters are all set for tomorrow's event at the Bell center in Montreal, Canada. In the main event, former IBF super middleweight world champion Lucian Bute (30-1, 24 KOs) returns for the first time since the TKO defeat to Carl Froch, and takes on Denis Grachev (12-0-1, 8 KOs) for the NABF light heavyweight title. Bute weighed in at 169- pounds, and Grachev was actually lower at at 168.9. The fight will be televised by WealthTV and stream live at www.wealthtv.com.
