Former unified champion Mikaela Mayer is still hoping that women's boxing will receive three-minute rounds.
At the moment, world title fights that involve female fighters are restricted to ten, two-minute rounds in championship fights as opposed to the men who fight 12, three-minute rounds.
"When you don't allow women to go three-minute rounds, you are holding back the evolution process," Mayer said to BBC Sport.
"At this level, that extra time would separate the good from the great. It would be way more decisive of a win and you'd get to see true champion rounds."
Mayer is planning to move up in weight for her next fight.
As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Mayer is in line to face former two-time WBO junior welterweight titlist Christina Linardatou.
Mayer is looking to recover after suffering her first career defeat last October, when she dropped a ten round split decision to Alycia Baumgardner in their four belt super featherweight unification clash.
Mayer believes a twelve round fight would have made the difference in a close contest.
"Alycia was always going to come out strong for the first three, and then she's going to slowly fade," Mayer said.
"We had a really good strategy, and I guarantee if we had three-minute rounds you would have seen me really close that gap on the scores.
"When you're just getting into the rhythm of the round, ding, the round is over. It's breaking the fight up too much. You're just feeling it out, starting to see your opponent's gaps, you have them hurt on the ropes and all of a sudden they call time. I just feel like it's holding us back and taking us to that next level."
