This past Saturday night, Mauricio Herrera (22-5, 7KOs) conquered the NABF super lightweight title after defeating Hank Lundy by majority decision, after the fight was stopped in round five due to an injury suffered by Herrera on his eyelid. Herrera was badly cut since round one and Lundy was dedicated to punishing that area. The cut became really big and the fight had to be stopped, so it went to the scorecards. One judge saw it 48-48, and the other two ones decided: 48-47 and 48-47, in favor of “Maestro” Herrera.

In the opening bout of the Golden Boy Promotions card, Zachary Ochoa (12-0, 5 KOs) remained unbeaten with an eight round unanimous decision over David Rodela. Ochoa was the busier fighter, landing at will, but Rodela (17-11-4, 7 KOs) was able to land a series of rights to Ochoa's head. Ochoa was at his best working from the outside, keeping Rodela at the end of his punches. Despite having a left eye that was closing during the last two rounds, Rodela pressed the action while Ochoa boxed around the ring. All three judges scored the bout 79-73 in favor of Ochoa.
Mauricio Herrera has every reason to feel confident about beating Hank Lundy on Saturday night in Los Angeles. The hard-luck junior welterweight contender from Riverside, California, is sure he has beaten better boxers than Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KOs), even if he wasn’t credited with winning fights against Danny Garcia (30-0, 17 KOs) and Jose Benavidez (23-0, 16 KOs) in 2014.
Mauricio Herrera and Hank Lundy are primed and ready for their crossroads bout Saturday evening in Los Angeles, California. The pair of hard-luck veterans square off in what serves as the last ever boxing event at the famed LA Sports Arena. Plans call for the historic venue to be demolished and replaced by an outdoor stadium. The bout will air live on HBO Latino. Herrera is coming off of what many felt should have been a career-defining year, yet somehow managed just one win in three fights in 2014. The Californian was deemed unfortunate to have not walked away with decision wins over Danny Garcia and Jose Benavidez. Titles were at stake in both fights, including the World lineal 140 lb. championship versus Garcia. All that the 35-year old Herrera walked away with from either occasion was industry-wide respect as his opponents escaped with highly questionable decisions.
