Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada will defend his WBC super flyweight 'Franchise' world championship, when he faces the tough fighter from the capital, Argi Cortes, on Saturday, September 3, at the Hermosillo Multiple Use Center, leading an event being presented by Zanfer, Matchroom Boxing and 2M Promotions, broadcast nationally in Mexico by Azteca 7, to Latin America by ESPN KnockOut, and globally by DAZN.
Juan Francisco Estrada will head home for his first fight after being removed as WBA titlist. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the lineal junior bantamweight champion and WBC “Franchise” titlist will next face countryman Argi Cortes atop a September 3 show from Estrada’s hometown of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. The bout was confirmed during the WBC’s latest ‘Martes de Café’ weekly meeting Tuesday in Mexico City.
Former four division champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez is only focused on a year-end trilogy fight with Juan Francisco Estrada. Gonzalez won a twelve round unanimous decision over Estrada in 2012. They collided for a second time last year, with Estrada winning a very close twelve round split decision.
Joshua Franco has waited a year for a title consolidation clash with Juan Francisco Estrada. A fight never came of the ordeal, though his patience is at least rewarded with his first full major title. BoxingScene.com has learned that Mexico’s Estrada has been relieved of his WBA ‘Super’ junior bantamweight title reign. The development comes months after the lineal champion was ordered to face San Antonio’s Franco, in line with a WBA ruling made a year ago almost to the day.
WBC "Franchise" super flyweight champion Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada has now fully recovered from COVID-19 and is training for his next fight.
Juan Francisco Estrada is in the unique position of having to relinquish a title he doesn’t physically own. Two options remain at large for the lineal junior bantamweight king, who still has ties to the WBA (“Super” champion) and the WBC (“Franchise” designation). Mexico’s Estrada was previously ordered to next face secondary WBA titlist Joshua Franco in a title consolidation clash that remains on hold and in search of a summertime fight date.
