Juan Francisco Estrada: record, next fight and profile →
Talks have once again surfaced of a highly anticipated rubber match between Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez. For the moment, it remains limited to just talk—and with several hurdles in the way of becoming a reality.
Joshua Franco is one win away from emerging as the lineal champion in a division where younger brother Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez holds the WBC title.
Juan Francisco Estrada and Joshua Franco now have an official promoter for their ordered fight. Boxingscene.com has learned that Golden Boy Promotions obtained the promotional rights to the Estrada-Franco WBA junior bantamweight title consolidation clash. Golden Boy submitted $120,000 as the lone bidder during the purse bid hearing held Tuesday via Zoom conference call, meeting the minimum standards for their bid to be honored.
Juan Francisco Estrada and Joshua Franco will have one more day to reach terms for their title consolidation fight. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that a 24-hour extension has been granted by the World Boxing Association (WBA), thus postponing Monday’s originally scheduled purse bid hearing for the junior bantamweight title fight.
Juan Francisco Estrada and Joshua Franco remain no closer to a head-on collision than was the case when they were ordered to fight two months ago.
Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez waited a year for his chance to avenge a defeat in a fight that he–and many others in the sport—felt should have gone his way.

Joshua Franco is now one win away from taking up his younger brother on a playful dare to unify titles. The World Boxing Association (WBA) has formally ordered a junior bantamweight title consolidation clash between Franco as the secondary titlist and lineal/WBA “Super” champion Juan Francisco Estrada. San Antonio’s Franco (18-1-2, 8KOs) was already guaranteed a shot at the primary WBA title, with that opportunity now to come on the heels of younger brother Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (15-0, 10KOs) having claimed the WBC junior bantamweight title.
Julio Cesar Martinez will face Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez at the Pechanga Arena San Diego in San Diego, California on Saturday March 5, live worldwide on DAZN.
Now that decision-makers for DAZN and Matchroom Boxing realize Juan Francisco Estrada won’t be able to fight Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez a third time March 5, they’re trying to find a suitable replacement to keep the streaming service’s main event intact for that night.
