Boxing has long been called the theater of the unexpected, and for light heavyweight contender Atif Oberlton, he learned that adage firsthand in his most recent bout.

“He was released last night with no reported injuries,” Dmitriy Salita of Salita Promotions messaged BoxingScene on Monday.

Light heavyweight prospect Atif Oberlton will be spotlighted on Sunday as the co-feature to the rematch between Claressa Shields and Franchon Crews-Dezurn.

Claressa Shields versus Franchon Crews-Dezurn now has an undercard set for February 22 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

ShoBox: The New Generation returns to Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Fla. for the second time in two months on Friday, February 18 for an exciting tripleheader featuring six prospects with a combined record of 74-2-2, five new to the developmental series. The action takes place live on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

By Keith Idec - Alexander Povetkin was down twice, battered and all but out. Dillian Whyte was on the verge of finishing the Russian contender entering the fifth round August 22. The heavy-handed contender sent Povetkin to one knee with a left hook 28 seconds into the fourth round and again with 20 seconds to go in the fourth, the second time thanks to a left uppercut....

The return of “Showtime Championship Boxing” drew lower viewership than usual Saturday night than the series typically attracts. According to Nielsen Media Research figures released Tuesday, the premium cable network’s three-bout broadcast peaked at 209,000 viewers during the main event. That bout, Angelo Leo’s unanimous-decision victory over Tramaine Williams in a 12-round fight for the then-vacant WBO junior featherweight title, attracted an average of 150,000 viewers.

The opening bout of Showtime’s first live boxing event in 141 days managed to deliver a leading candidate for 2020 Knockout of the Year. Unfortunately, it also produced one of the worst official scorecards in a year filled with questionable judging. Saturday’s edition of Showtime Championship Boxing featured two rematches, including the first leg of a televised tripleheader. Joe George (11-0, 7KOs) scored a dramatic, come-from-behind 9th round knockout of Marcos Escudero in their light heavyweight sequel live from Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Joe George was shocked. That’s the word the unbeaten light heavyweight used upon learning he was losing on the scorecards entering the ninth round of his rematch against Marcos Escudero on Saturday night. George’s vicious left uppercut knocked out Escudero early in the ninth round and rendered the judges’ opinions meaningless.
