Joe George emphatically ensured that the judges had no say in the outcome of his rematch with Marcos Escudero. Behind on two scorecards in their 10-round light heavyweight fight Saturday night, George drilled Escudero with a left uppercut that abruptly ended it early in the ninth round. George’s vicious shot sent Escudero flat on his back 20 seconds into the ninth round.
Joseph George doesn’t consider his split-decision victory over Marcos Escudero the least bit controversial. George is certain that by consistently landing the flusher punches and hurting Escudero multiple times, he deserved to win their 10-round light heavyweight bout November 15 at WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, Iowa. Judges Bob LaFratte (97-93) and Carlos Sucre (97-94) scored that fight for George, but judge Gloria Martinez gave Escudero credit for winning, 96-94.

Escudero was far busier and landed more punches overall, but George staggered Escudero in the ninth round, landed the heavier shots and was more accurate with his punches.

Angelo Leo and Tramaine Williams have one last hurdle to overcome now that they have made weight for their 12-round, 122-pound title fight. Leo, Williams and the four other boxers scheduled to compete in fights Showtime will televise are awaiting the results of the final COVID-19 tests they took before their weigh-in Friday afternoon at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. The results of those tests should become available by Friday night.

Marcos Escudero (10-1) and Joseph George first fought in September on a SHOBOX card that George won by a controversial split decision. One judge had the bout for Escudero 96-94 but was overruled by the other 2 judges who had it 97-94 and 97-9 in favor of George.
