Jack Culcay: record, next fight and profile →
The stage is set for Saturday night’s World Championship boxing in Germany, where ‘Golden’ Jack Culcay (20-1, 10 KOs) will defend his interim WBA World Light Middleweight title against the unbeaten Irishman Dennis Hogan (22-0-1, 7 KOs). Culcay claimed the interim WBA belt with a unanimous points decision over Maurice Weber in May, and is now looking for a first successful defence at Hamburg’s Inselparkhalle.
Jack Culcay (20-1, 10 KOs) will defend his interim WBA World Light Middleweight title against Dennis Hogan (22-0-1, 7 KOs) on December 5 at the Inselparkhalle in Hamburg, Germany. The fight was initially scheduled to take place on September 26 in Berlin as part of Team Sauerland’s ‘Next Generation’ event at the Max Schmeling Halle, but due to a spate of injuries the show was cancelled. ‘Golden Jack’ will now face the Irish-born Australian in the champion’s adopted hometown of Hamburg.
It looks like the brass at Sauerland Event will have to celebrate its upcoming anniversary the traditional way—with a night on the town rather than at the fights. Following a rash of injuries and opponent withdrawals, a command decision has been made to cancel the September 26 show at Max Schmelling Halle in Berlin, Germany. The card was to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the first show hosted by company founder Wilfried Sauerland, but will now be forced to settle for a belated celebration. A few days after Tyron Zeuge was forced to pull out of his scheduled fight with Eduard Guknecht after injuring his foot in a traffic accident, unbeaten super middleweight prospect Stefan Haertel hit the disabled list. The wounds coupled with the late withdrawals of intended opponents for other key undercard fighters were enough to convince company brass to postpone the event. “It’s a pity for the boxers who have been training hard in preparation for this event,” Frederick Ness, general manager for Sauerland Event said in a statement through its press office.
Tyron Zeuge will still have the chance to put his unbeaten record and regional title on the line versus Eduard Gutknecht. It will just no longer take place on Sauerland Event's big 35th anniversary show. A foot injury has forced the rising super middleweight contender from the September 26 bill in Berlin, Germany. Zeuge sustained the wound in a traffic accident, resulting in his crossroads bout with Gutknecht being pushed back.
The staff at Sauerland Event continues to go all in for its big 35th anniversary show on September 26 at Max Schmelling Hall in Berlin, Germany. Tickets are now officially on sale for the blockbuster event and available by calling (+49) 030-44304430 or online via www.tickethall.de and www.eventim.de.
To celebrate 35 years since ‘Hall of Fame’ promoter Wilfried Sauerland staged his first show on German soil, Team Sauerland present a special anniversary show on September 26 at the Max Schmeling Halle in Berlin, headlined by rising German stars Jack Culcay (20-1, 10 KOs) and Tyron Zeuge (17-0, 10 KOs). On September 26, 1980, Sauerland began his endeavor to bring big-time boxing back to Germany when promoting a light heavyweight contest between Chisanda Mutti and Uwe Meinicke at the Cologne Sartory Hall.
On September 26 at the Max Schmeling Hall in Berlin Sauerland Event will stage a big show celebrating its 35th anniversary (in Germany, that is). Headlining is WBA interim welter champ Jack Culcay (20-1) against an opponent to be announced. In the co-feature supermiddle Tyron Zeuge (17-0) is rumored to take on Eduard Gutknecht (28-3-1). Since Bulgarian heavyweight Kubrat Pulev (20-1) is to participate in the press conference announcing the show it´s an educated guess that he will fight on the undercard in his first fight since losing to Wladimir Klitschko.
Nothing is confirmed by Sauerland Event but media in German writes that WBA interim super welterweight champ “Golden” Jack Culcay will defend the title on September 26 at the Max Schmeling Hall in Berlin against an opponent to be announced. In the chief support there might be an interesting fight at super middleweight between Tyron Zeuge (17-0) and Eduard Gutknecht (28-3-1), where the winner is likely to get a shot at WBO ruler Arthur Abraham.
Jack Culcay (20-1, 10 KOs) took his chance and is the new WBA Interim World Champion at Super Welterweight! Fighting in front of a home crowd against compatriot Maurice Weber (21-2-1, 8 KOs) at the Festhalle Frankfurt (Germany), Culcay dominated most of the rounds. Despite Culcay landing hard punches to Weber's head and body in the championship rounds, the latter refused to give in, letting the judges make their final verdict. After twelve rounds, "Golden Jack" won by scores of 115:112, 116:111 und 118:110.
In a battle of grizzled, aged, and faded heavyweight veterans, Bosnian Adnan Redzovic (16-1, 5 KOs) came back into a winning column with a solid stoppage of overmatched Kosovo native Bekim Pagga (5-8, 3 KOs), six years his senior. Redzovic, 38, suffered his first career loss in a close fight against hulking Swiss kayo artist Arnold Gjergjaj with a ninth-round stoppage. He did better versus very faded Pagga, who had his own moments but was mostly outgunned and outboxed. Pagga was down in the third after a left uppercut by Redzovic and had absolutely nothing left choosing to retire in his corner after the third round.
