New York - Former two division world champion Bernard Hopkins knows a thing or two about landing body shots and winning at Madison Square Garden.

He took it to Felix 'Tito' Trinidad in 2001, stopping the Puerto Rican inside of enemy territory in New York.

Hopkins, who is a partner in Golden Boy Promotions, was in attendance to watch Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KO’s) do the same this past weekend to cheers from the Garden crowd - as the Mexican star demolished Rocky Fielding in three easy rounds.

“The Executioner” left Madison Square Garden please with Alvarez’ performance where he stopped Rocky Fielding (27-2, 15 KO’s) inside three rounds with brutal body shots.

“Body shots, the head shots very impressive, expected but very impressive,” Hopkins told BoxingScene.com. The burden wasn’t on Rocky but it was on Canelo. Canelo wanted to get out of here early.”

Hopkins who moved up and won titles in multiple divisions feels Canelo can campaign at 160 and 168.

“Canelo seemed to be extremely strong at 168,” stated Hopkins. He can definitely defend both belts. We know he has obligations at 160 but he can make two divisions happy. His body is comfortable and I didn’t see an ounce of fat. He looked stronger and he felt more comfortable.

As for what’s next for Canelo. Hopkins hopes there is a tournament of sorts between Canelo, Danny Jacobs (32-2, 29 KO’s), Jermall Charlo, and Gennady Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KO’s).

“I want to see GGG-Charlo and Canelo-Jacobs., said Hopkins. “Even though pay-per-view is dead, it would be 100 blockbuster pay-per-view card or get it for the penny on the dollar on DAZN. My whole thing is do the fight that makes sense for at least 4 fighters to give us something to look forward to. I mean you got the playoffs and the world championships in the NFL NBA, and MLB. Let’s have fun with it.”

Hopkins also feels that Charlo (23-0, 18 KO’s) will reconsider fighting Canelo after Saturday night.

“I don’t think it will matter after he (Charlo) seen that devastating left hook. I think he’ll reconsider and fight someone else. There’s a lot of ways to avoid a fight, you can ask for a billion dollars and price yourself out,” Hopkins said.
