Eddie Hearn, promoter for former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, has provided an update to the ongoing negotiations to make a December clash with former WBC champ Deontay Wilder.
Hearn revealed that Wilder's team member flew in to the UK to have face to face meetings to discuss the bout.
“It went great. We spoke through dates, numbers. We expect to receive formal paperwork in the next 7-10 days. I'm very confident you're gonna get a fight," Hearn told Derek Chisora's Youtube channel.
The high-stakes fight is being pursued by Skill Challenge Promotions to take place in Saudi Arabia.
Wilder has been out of the ring since October of last year, when he blew away Robert Helenius in one round at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
At the moment, Wilder is trying to finalize an interim-fight with former unified champion Andy Ruiz - which if finalized would take place in late August or late September.
Joshua came back to the ring in April, to win an unanimous decision win over Jermaine Franklin. The British star is also trying to secure an interim-fight, with ongoing discussions to stage a rematch with Dillian Whyte on August 12.
Should they meet in the ring, Wilder is viewed as the favorite to defeat Joshua.
Hearn views his own boxer as the favorite, although he openly admits Wilder's punching power is a big game changer - as witnessed in his two fight series with Luis Ortiz. In the rematch, Wilder was down big on all three of the official cards and knocked Ortiz out with a single punch in the seventh.
"The reason I say that is because I think Deontay Wilder is a dangerous knockout artist. Because, Luis Ortiz absolutely schooled him and stood him on his head. He knocked him out, but he was 8-0 in rounds. His only victory of note in his entire career is Luis Ortiz," Hearn told DAZN.
