David Haye, the manager for heavyweight contender Derek Chisora, has revealed that Oleksandr Usyk is "interested" in fighting his man.
There is a possibility that Chisora and Usyk could collide in 2020 for the vacant WBO heavyweight title.
The possibility will depend of the December 7th rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz, who battle for the IBO, IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight championships in Saudi Arabia.
Usyk is currently the WBO's mandatory challenger and he's in line for the Ruiz-Joshua winner. The challenge for Joshua or Ruiz - is that the IBF's mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev, will also be pushing for his crack.
Should the winner of that rematch refuse to face Usyk - then the belt will become vacant.
Haye plans to push for the WBO to sanction a Chisora-Usyk title fight - should the heavyweight belt become vacant.
"Usyk's people have been in contact with [promoter Eddie Hearn] to say they are interested. The WBO have a convention in Tokyo where I will lobby them. The WBO want exciting fighters, and it makes sense for them to sanction Usyk vs Chisora," Haye told Sky Sports.
"My gut says the WBO [will be vacated] because Usyk is a tricky customer. I believe Joshua will go the Pulev route, a bigger guy who will stand and fight, rather than the Usyk route."
Haye and Evander Holyfield are the only two boxers to capture unified gold in cruiserweight and then win a heavyweight belt. Haye wants to prevent Usyk from being the third.
"Myself and Evander Holyfield are the only two to win the cruiserweight and heavyweight championships. Usyk would potentially be the third man to ever do it, so I'd like to stop that," Haye said.
"Whether it's Chisora's next fight or the fight after, it will be for a world title. Imagine Chisora winning a world title? What a turnaround."
