Abel Sanchez, trainer of WBA/IBF/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs), is looking forward to his fighter taking on WBC champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in 2016.

Golovkin, by holding the WBC's interim world title, is the mandatory challenger to Canelo's belt.

The World Boxing Council is allowing both boxers to take interim fights in the first half of the year.

Should both fighters prevail, they will then be required to negotiate and face each other presumably in the fall. If either fighter backs out of this agreement, he will lose his WBC title.

Sanchez is not only confident of his fighter's ability to win, he believes the fight will end by knockout within nine rounds.

"Okay, I understand they want to [build up] the fight. Mayweather-Pacquiao was worth $30 million five years ago and now it costs hundreds of millions. That part is fine, but athletically I'm positive that Canelo won't last nine rounds with Golovkin - whether it happens in May, September, 2016 or 2020," Sanchez told ESPN Deportes.

"This fight is very interesting. There is no doubt that Canelo is popular, but Golovkin has grown very much and when they fight it's going to be very interesting."
