New York - Abel Sanchez, the trainer of Gennady Golovkin has been on record of saying that he feels the lineal and WBC Middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33 KO’s) will not fight Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO’s) should he defeat Canelo Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KO’s).

But with the recent success of Golovkin’s ticket sales for his fight with David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO’s) and possibly putting up good pay-per-view numbers as the a-side for Golovkin, it could change the dynamic for Cotto. Sanchez says that Cotto may be more willing to fight Golovkin should he become a box office success on pay-per-view and if Cotto dominates Canelo come November 21st.

“I think it all depends on how Cotto does against Canelo,” Sanchez told BoxingScene.com “If Cotto dominates, I think he’ll be more open to fighting GGG. But if Canelo dominates or its close, I don’t think he takes the fight, maybe he does the rematch. I truly believe Canelo and Golden Boy would honor the mandatory. I would hope Cotto would do the same and do the round robin tournament, especially since we have proven we can sell tickets.”

The managing director of K2 Promotions Tom Loeffler feels the same and that a new financial dynamic could entice Cotto and Canelo to make the fight with Golovkin.

“If he can be successful selling out Madison Square Garden and being successful on pay-per-view than that brings a whole new dynamic into this,” Loefller said to BoxingScene.com “Its prizefighting, Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez are going to get in the ring and get paid if they fight us should we be successful. If Golovkin brings that dynamic versus the winner of that fight, it could be one of the biggest events in the history of the sport.”

Should Golovkin become a more viable B-side in the equation or even a level A-side with Cotto and Canelo, Loeffler said he has no problem fighting where Cotto and Canelo are comfortable in terms of location.

“Gennady doesn’t care where he fights. If Cotto wins, it would naturally happen here at the Garden and become one of the biggest fights in the building’s history. If Canelo wins, we can go to Texas and fight at Dallas Stadium or the Alamodome. For us it’s easy to make the fights, even last year when we were talking with Chavez and Top Rank. We shifted that whole thing for Chavez side to make the fight.”
