                    Depends how much achuete (annatto) or other food coloring has
                    been added, as well as how white the rice and sugar used were,
                    and whether the heat applied has come close to burning the sugar.

                    Generally speaking, home-made cuchinta tends towards brown,
                    whereas mass-produced cuchinta tends to have a more orangeish
                    aspect. Obviously, there will be exceptions.

                    Since a lot of other Pinoy sweets have a brownish color, cuchinta
                    is usually (and more to the point, distinctively) described as "orange",
                    even though it's more often closer to brown
