It will indeed. I only really wanted to survive this season, anything else is a bonus. However, you've got to think of next season. With ourselves and yourselves we're likely to have lots to spend next season (boro not so much). Everyone knows that the North East is not exactly where the best players want to go, so league placing will be a big deciding factor in who gets the contact of the players who ARE willing to come into the cold to ply their trade, particularly as both yourselves and Boro seem more willing to splash out on wages than we are.

No, you would rather spend £9m on a goal keeper.

A fee raising to £9m for one of the best young goalkeepers in the world who is now starting to adjust to the faster and higher quality Premier League finishers and who is already an established International goalkeeper?

Surely you, a supportor of the team who has WASTED millions upon millions of strikers who made little to no impact can not possibly be looking down your nose at a team who has made an astute defensive purchase that could realistically stand the goalkeeping of our team in good stead for the best part of the next decade?

Perhaps you're just jealous that you didnt manage to steal this one off us like you did the last one. Cos Shay Given certainly pulled you out of the relegation ****fest that you should've been in for most of his career and he wouldnt have even been on your horizon had it not been for his glorious loan move to us.

If that was an attempt as a knock, it was horribly misjudged.

A £9m goal keeper who let in 7 goals in one game.

Your point making skills are dire. Many top drawer goalkeepers have had games where they've conceeded loads of goals. Just as frequently, its not their fault. If you'd seen the match, or read anything about it, you'd know that many critics agreed that...had it not been for Gordon, we'dve had conceeded a lot more. The defense was to blame for that, in particular Paul McShane who has barely played since. Its no surprise that ever since we tightened up the defense we've kept many more clean sheets and conceeded far fewer goals.

At this juncture, it'd be worth pointing out that despite that game where we let in 7 goals and a generally disasterous defensive start to the season...we've still let in 8 fewer goals than Newcastle.

Gordon is proving his worth now, 5 goals conceeded in the last 8 games tells a pretty big story. He's also pulled us out of the **** on a number of occasions lately. Lets not forget, he's only 25. Goalkeepers really start to find their peak when moving into their thirties.
