I don't think it's quite that simple... yes, it makes ense to avoid panic, but I honestly think the authorities on both sides of the atlantic were wrongfooted and initially thought things might not have been quite as serious as they now appear to be.

Firstly there's the spread of the disease - asymptomatic cases or those with mininmal symptoms were maybe more common than thought at first, so the spread may have been more advanced than early projections suggested.

Secondly I think the higher mortality rates coming out of Italy, Iran etc may well have spooked the authorities everywhere. Even though these figures are not necessarily representative and there's good reason to think that the true mortality may be around 1% or so, when older or possibly less well sanitised populations are hitting 6 - 8% mortality amongst recorded infectees it's the kinda number any responsible authority is gonna shit themselves over.

1% is bad but mangeable, if 5% - 10% was the true figure you'd be looking at an apocalyptic level event - potentially several hundred million deaths worldwide... Even though the epidemiologists have been quite clear that we ain't talking anything close to that scale, even the suggestion of the possibility has rightly had our various national governments scrambling to make up for lost time.

Absolutely. It was an international governmental conspiracy. China, US, Iran, even European countries like Italy, all in on it. They alll downplayed the seriousness, by not shutting borders the first day, by not cancelling all flights anywhere the first hour. They all were in on it, just to sell off stocks.

While Trump was telling everyone, there is no threat from Coronavirus he Republican pals were selling their stocks and shares and telling the wealthy elite not to travel.

Was this Trumps plan, allow everyone to dump their stock before he could call it a crisis?

Seems pretty obvious to me that these Senators are guilty, but who else benefited from their illegal tip off and did Trump falsely reassure people so his pals would not lose a lot of money?

These senators aren't even close to Trump, Diane Feinstein a Democrat was one of these senators that sold off too, you conveniently forgot to mention her.

This conspiracy would make a lot more sense if it was Lindsey Graham or Mike Lee.

This would be true if trump and his kids would have sold their stocks as well but if they didnt then its bs to let secure other peoples money but not ur family.

Also feinstein who is a democrat has done the same so seems like it wasnt about party lines

                Feinstein is really a Republican.

                We'll call her a DINO

If they got a briefing on this seriousness on January 24, when do you think Trump got that briefing but still advised Americans to buy stocks, it’s nothing etc.

Heck I knew about the virus as early as December and that’s from watching YouTube and having an internet.

Too bad trump dismantled WHP. Could have been better prepared
