The comparison you can't make is in the context of which the question was asked. Nazism isn't a religion, so it was stopped after the war for the most part. Even if we "defeat" ISIS, we won't reduce Islam as an ideology. That is the dangerous aspect of religion that doesn't exist in nationalism or politics.

The only way this is stopped is if the moderates in the religion do away with it from within. Outside of that, you kill one and another takes his place. You drone some poor family in Pakistan and kill their infant daughter, you don't think they will grow to hate you?

That's the way I see it too.

Time and time again US military weaponry (and training) finds its way into the hands of terrorists or drug cartels but the American people never get serious about asking why. Or about asking who might benefit from all the chaos and instability being sown around the world.
