The 2003 team was deep too. Bruce Bowen was one of the best lock down defenders ever, Stephen Jackson and Tony Parker hadn't really come into their own yet, but were still big reasons why that team won.
And then in 2005 and 2007 he had Ginobli and Parker still, as well as Bowen still playing lock down D. And this year, Parker is still playing well, as is Ginobli. And Leonard really came into his own.
The Spurs have always had deep teams since Pop turned them around. They have a ton of guys that do a little bit of everything. That's why they're so consistent winning 50+ games all the time. That and Duncan never had to endure losing Tony Parker or Manu to toher teams, and playing with the likes of Kwami Brown, Devon George, Luke Walton, etc.
People want to talk about Kobe running Shaq out of town.....but even years later Shaq would go on to say he left because of money. Shaq wanted an unreasonable amount of money from LA given his age. He was 32 years old, and LA knew he only had a few elite years left.
And don't even try to tell me that Pau Gasol is a higher level teammate to play with than Tony Parker. Gasol was key to the Lakers, along with Kobe, in winning back to back titles and going to three in a row. But c'mon.....Gasol or Parker??? Parker is easily the better all time player.
Both guys are great. But Duncan has significantly fallen off statistically, hasn't average 20-10 since 2007. Kobe up until 14 months ago was still dropping ridiculous numbers on par with what he'd been doing for 14 years. Both played with great players and great teams, with great coaches. But yet you guys are trying to act like Duncan was some lone wolf......I've never heard anyone go that full ****** before about the Spurs. You guys are slighting everyone that was key in the Spurs success the last 15 years.
What's the last "elite" season Duncan had??? Probably 2008 or 2009. Kobe may not be elite anymore, we'll find out when he comes back. But he was elite from 1999-2013 every single year.
