MGS 2 is a very clever game. In fact, calling it a game is an insult, it's a social experiment, and a philosophical outlook at the impending digital age, masquerading as a game.

(Remember GW telling Raiden that mass flood of information, with no context control would lead to a influx of "garbage information", eerily similar to today's social media)

Everything you hate about MGS2 was intentionally designed so that you would hate it.

no it wasn't Kojima even said he regret it and if you played next MGS titles you will notice how they backtracked from most of it hell he even made fun of Raiden in MGS3 and went on to completely redesign his character in MGS4.

Kojima never regretted MGS2. He was disappointed that players didn't "get it".

After that he gave fans what they wanted. He completely sabotaged MGS4.

Raiden was designed to appeal to Japanese audiences. He wasn't designed to be hated at all, he was just a bad character for American audiences.

That explains the appearance for sure, but it doesn't explain his actual character though. His character was suppose to mimick the player, his whiny frustrations and irrational worship of Solid Snake was there to mirror the thoughts of the player.

It wasn't an oversight, Hideo knew what the players wanted, he chose not to give it to them.

No, his appearance and character are both typical cliche Japanese whiny boy. They love that stuff. Raiden is hugely popular there. He didn't foresee how much Americans would dislike Raiden.

So Kojima created the complete antithesis of the widely acclaimed Solid Snake with no regard of how western audiences would react to it?

Are you really saying Kojima is that shallow a game designer to model the main character of his flagship video game series, to appease 14 year old Japanese school girls?

                    Come on, now.

I'm saying Kojima miscalculated. He's human. He's done it a few times. He didn't make Raiden without regard for western audiences, he simply didn't expect him to get the hate he did. I know Raiden was created to give us a new perspective of Snake, I get what his purpose was, but he miscalculated the reaction Raiden would get.

And it wasn't for Japanese school girls. It was for Japanese people, all of them. They love Raiden, just as much if not more than Snake. Metal Gear is big there as well. Kojima puts animeish stuff in all the Metal Gear games. Raiden was an example of that.
