  • 2 questions....

1.) im 149 lbs now, looking to get to 154,but with the training im doin,am i more likely to lose weight that put it on,we run, skip, bag work, pad work, sparring, press ups,sit ups..all other types of ground training like that,so should i do some weight training in my own time so i dont lose weight?

2.) starting from this week,im goin to train 4 days a week,monday,tuesday,wednesday,thursday..instead of just tuesday thursday,i k now it will be twice as hard, but what are the benefits of it,what changes will i most likely see?

One question: Why would you want to go 2 lbs. over the weight division limit? The amateur division is 152 lbs., not 154.

    1) If you want to gain weight you can use (ie. not fat), you'd probably do well to add some weights to your training schedule. Just bear in mind that it's important to eat a lot. This is hard, since you have to eat a lot of HEALTHY foods. Eating a bunch of crap will just get you fat and tired.

    2) At first you'll feel more fatigue. The benefits are hard to pinpoint, since we don't know how your training is put together, but overall, you can expect to build more endurance, strength, and training twice the amount should also give you the chance to do twice as much skills training.

No, I live in Denmark, but the divisions are the same in all AIBA (world amateur governing body) member countries. You can see the weight divisions in the American rankings at USA Boxing here:

        http://www.usaboxing.org/94.htm

The divisions around your weight are 141, 152 and 165.

If you are attending a boxing gym, one of the trainers should be able to let you know what weight division you are suited for. When I stared training I walked around at about 167-168, as I trained and did not lift ANY weights, I actually lost weight because of that. I then walked around at about 158 and I fought in the 152 division (amatuer). So about a week before the fight I would diet strictly and just not train too hard. By the morning of the fight I was right at 152.

If you can get down to 141 (amatuer welter weight) comfortably, that would probably be best. I dont see a reason in gaining wieght to make a certain division. If you have began to train now, you might lose or gain weight depending on your previous lifestyle, and workout habits. I personaly lost weight when I got serious because my previous lifestyle involved weight lifting, and little cardio. So when I started boxing alot of my muscle mass was lost.

Id say eat healthy and workout, maybe youll lose a few pounds of fat, but put on a few pounds of muscle and stay at the same weight. I personally would say stay at a lower weight.

I would advise going down to say welter. It's only 8lbs and you could train your endurance hard to get there. Better suited to fight.
But it's an easy equation to go up. Eat a lot of Protiene Somewhere in the line of 1g per every pound of body weight will have you gain quickly keep in mind this is a body building formula, you may want to go at a slower pace.Along with a very strict diet as far as fats and carbs go. Only carbs that are used easily for youir training routine. "complex" like whole grains, yams, and those found in fruits. Use a lot of compound movements with the weights no isolation as far as muscle groups go. Work your core, And that doesn't just mean mid section. Your back plays a vital role in fighting. And don't do the weights every day. every other at best keep it to 3-4 days out of the week.

Welter is UP TO 152 lbs. Light welter is up to 141. Since 149 is in between, that would make you welter.

Edit: Which means, like Kingdosia says, you could probably make 141, with a lot of hard conditioning. Guys who fight at 152 generally walk around a lot heavier, when they're not fighting. My 152 guy walks around at 158, and he's a small welter.
