in other words, training yourself to prepare for amateur bouts instead of training out of a boxing gym? i know this sounds risky, but i don't think i need a trainer to prepare for an amateur bout.

I was watching boxing on HBO a few years ago where Lou Duva was telling his boy to: "Never mind the right hand, just keep jabbing." But his boy was facing a south paw, and getting hit with a straight left! Lou Duva was and is senile. Do you need a trainer? If he tells you to ignore the right when facing a southpaw, then you might be better off without one. However, if you lack a good trainer you can expect to get your head punched in.

You can train yourself. But if you are going to do that, make sure you video tape yourself and correct the errors as nessasary.
And to get a fight you do need a trainer to get you to be able to compete. Just tell your brother or dad or friend to get an amature liscense and he can work your corner.

Amateur fights aren't as easy as they look. Those kids put in many thousands hours of training to get where they are.

Why the hell would you think you can get anywhere in boxing without a trainer or going to the gym? You will get your head knocked off, amateur, pro, or sparring.

If you have any ambitions to go anywhere you will not accomplish it without a trainer. By you saying that you will "get a trainer for the pros" it indicates to me that you have some aspirations. Get a trainer. Trust me.

To be honest, I'm quite pissed that you disrespect boxing enough to think like that. "but damn, i need a trainer for amateur fights?" You think it's that easy? Try it out and get your head knocked off, I dare you.

i do think i have natural ability, but i figured that since i'd be a novice i wouldn't be fighting the best athletes in the world or anything. i guess i felt i really didn't need a trainer, for the amateur ranks atleast.
