i was supposed to have my first fight around mid november before i left the gym...and ive been boxing 4-6 months -
His guys don't even get to spar in there first year. I don't believe I'd be that extreme, but would go along those guidelines. And any boxer I put in the ring would be well prepared to handle the task.Comment

Actually 8 mos is reasonable. I feel it depends on how quickly you adapt in training, How late you start, and certainly what kind of athletic background you had before boxing. I cringe at the stories of 2-6 months. But it happens, some are just ready. Maybe you watched and learned a lot about boxing before you hit the gym.Comment

So it seems your timing was right on. No rush, no foot dragging either. Fencing and a southpaw, must have a mean parry? From what I know of you Id think you'd be a better boxer then brawler. A counter puching menace of a southpaw with a wicked 1 2 would be my guessComment

I think you may be right, but I'm not there, yet. I believe that my brawling style developed as a psychological reaction to being afraid of getting hit: falling back on what I know. I have more faith in my physical strength than I do my boxing ability per se, so when I "spool up" or get pressured, I tend to shove my opponent back and beat the **** out of them with shovelhooks and overhands. For awhile they were alternately calling me "Crash" and "Dozer" at my gym.
I'm actually ambidextrous; I fight southpaw b/c I'm left eye dominant.
I'm hoping to learn how to box -- really box -- this year.Comment
