before anything, learn how to punch first before you lift weights. leave the weights alone !!!!

on the bag, practice your jab before thinking about throwing a right hand. move around the bag thowing nothing but jabs for one round then incorporate the right hand, that's all a beginner should do. you have to train your muscles so u will punch properly. shadow box first for about 3 rounds and then get on the bag, practicing only the one-two (jab and right hand)

do push-ups in sets instead of weights, also do crunches.

hopefully you have a trainer to show u how to properly hit the bag, if you don't get one..

Get Joe Frazier's book, Box Like the Pros.

        Couldn't resist.

          not the book!!!!

Ok, I have heard my trainers and fitness coaches say it over and over to young fighters "beginers" that one of the most common mistakes they encounter is the premature use of a heavy bag by an unschooled fighter. And that it can and will lead to "bad habits" I'd advise you find a gym with a good boxing program and take a few lessons. It shouldn't take more than a few to have you on a level that you can do the work at home. There is soo much more you need to work on. I wouldn't have purchased the beavy bag until I was confident that my movements are correct. But different strokes for different folkes.

all i gotta say is wear wraps and gloves.
i did about a half hour of bag work... my shoulder and esp tricep looked like i had been pumpin iron for hours..

i dont kno what your trying to do.. if you want to learn how to box u should learn how to hit it correctly..

if your doing it for fitness then just use good protection.. and wear handwraps and decent gloves..

pratice jabs.. straight rights.. 1,2s for now
