I have heard about cases where you have had cases similiar to "runners knee" except on the shoulders meaning too much stress and tension on the shoulders and elbows and your shoulder ends up getting ****ed.

Originally posted by Kid AchillesYou can say you can do 100 pushups, which is probably a lot more than the slob you're talking to. Pushups are fun, I used to be able to do 120 in each set in high school.
in my gym there used to be a guy who did 100 pushups, 100 chinups, 100 headstands, 100 crunches every time he worked out, he was the most fit looking dude i've ever seen. he was also a martial artist

As a Sergeant in the Army, I used to have my squad do 20 push-ups every 1/2 hour on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Every one of my soldiers and myself could do 100 push-ups in two minutes for our madatory Physical Fitness Tests every few months as a result of this.

Small pushups on the knuckles, e.g. only drop about 6", are good to improve punching power. Full pushups are better for grapplers because they allow the grappler to hold a person and control their own body weight at any distance from the body. A person who hurts himself doing too many is probably rushing his training. One shouldn't increase reps more than 10% per week. Better to do different kinds of push-ups most of the week and a long set only once per week.
