Potatoes is an idiot when it comes to training for combative athletes. That beeing said I am small heavyweight, 5'11" usually from 220-235 in the land of giants I have no choice but to be and inside fighter. Stength is necessary in order to avoid being pushed around by the larger guys. I also suceed by using speed and power. Never sacrificing either of the to maintaining endurance and flexability as well. I do , squats, bench, military press, power cleans and deadlifts, strengthen my neck and shoulders Any compound movement, done at high intensity(weight) increases fast twicth muscle fiber "those used for explosive power"activation. I have also been advised by a well infomed fighter to read up on how explosive athletes train(football, olympic wrestling, olympic lifters), and you'll learn alot about how a fighter should weight train.

Dosia is and I are in the same boat, he's 5'11" and I stand 5'10", I am 230-235 as well. As of yesterday I was 231(haven't been eating that much this week). But the most important muscles to be worked are from the ankle up, because that is where kinetic energy or power as we call generates. I love squatting an power cleaning, as well as full out sprints, using some fancy surgical tubing and or a weighted vest( ya'll don't know nuthin bout that). But the legs are the driving force of power, but all other mucles need attention as well simply because weight training increases joint, tendon, and ligament strentgh. And aslo because the weaker the muscles the more stress your bones have to absorb, and your bones are the weakest of all connective tissues. In order of strength; muscles, ligamnets, bones. I will never understant why weight training is so controversial, but I know for damn sure, I ain't never gonna stop.

if u r looking for weight loss i'd say work the biggiest muscles groups HARD. im talking about the back, chest, legs. ur shoulders and arms are important but not as important as the big muscle groups. Squats are my favorite and the best exercise ever. of course, u wont lose weight without a balanced diet.

Hey any fighter will admit there is some crazy **** that goes on in your mind when inside the ring, and during training. Everything from Anger to despair. You need to be strong emotionaly to endure it.

You don't want a bodybuilding style workout for boxing, check out the weight training thread for some good info on weight training for boxing.
