  • boxing for fat loss

    hey everyone,

ive been looking around for a good anaerobic exercise for wieght loss. at my age, ive been told weights are a no, so i truned my attention to boxing.

will i bebale to build strength and muscle, and lose fat from it ?

would it be possible to do this from home, getting a heavybag, and what else ? skipping rope ? speedbag ?

it'd be best to just goto a boxing gym. There, if you truly like boxing, you will enjoy your experiences there, i guarantee this. you don't have to spar if you don't want to. But if you have good reflexes and develop a good jab you should be fine getting a few rounds in with whoever trains there.

as far as weight loss, i started boxing in may, when i weighed 320lbs, and since then ,in 4 months, ive gained a good bit of muscle and gotten down to 260. it wasnt easy though, i run at night and watch what i eat most of the time, and dont go on jogs, run... on grass for a mile or so, easier on the shins and joints for a big (or old) person, plus it works the legs and abs better.

Yeah, join a boxing gym. Even if you don't like to train there, you'll learn the fundamentals so you can work at home since it's only for fitness.

basically joinin a gym is a good idea as already stated but what i did was when i joined my gym i asked a trainer to give me tips on a reasonable plan on how to build muscle (not loose weight) and he suggested some stuff for me though it was for my age so if you ask the same question make sure he knows your age and what you find hard to do. hope that helps

problem is.. there is no boxing gym in my town.. and i dont want to go out of town for it

would it be possible to use info from the net and books/dvds for techniques, and just box at home ? i dont want to compete, but i do want to have good technique, and have the ability.

its really very very hard to learn from books/dvds without any training experience. also you should know if you like boxing before you invest hundreds of dollars into a home gym and materials.
